Wednesday Night Bible Study in the Dorms
Wednesday Night Bible Study in the Dorms

In a country where only 12% of the people are practicing, confessing Christians, there's a movement of the Holy Spirit breaking out within college age students. Michal, a 6th year med student, leads the Bible study. Michal and his wife, Katarina, who is in her 5th year of med school, were married in 2024 and live about 20 minutes away via public transportation. They are Slovakian and both are Christians. They grew up in families who have a strong faith in God. Michal knows that God wants him to share his faith by leading these young adults into a deeper relationship with God.

The college students meet on Monday and Friday mornings at 7 AM for a quick time of scripture, prayer, and connection. On Wednesdays they meet at 8 PM for a time of Bible study and discussion.

On Wednesday I was invited to sit in on one of the small group Bible studies. The group is studying 1 & 2 Kings, primarily the story of David. They begin by reading the scripture and then they watch "The House of David," an adaptation on the story of David. This particular part of the adaptation was vastly different from what the Bible actually says. The discussion was intense as they students navigated their way through the differences. I was able to give them insight and they seemed eager to learn. I was able to talk to them about how to read and interpret the Bible. There was such an eagerness to delve deeper into the subject, so Michal asked if I would be willing to lead a discussion next Wednesday.

When you think about only 12% of the nation is Christian, the reality of 10 students in a college dorm studying the Word of God becomes tremendously significant. In the American South, we may miss this significance, but here the number 10 becomes momumental. Shouldn't we celebrate even one? Jesus did!

Before the night was over, I began to plant the seeds of discipleship. I talked for a moment about callling and witness - about what God is doing and what He's asking. What would it look like for these 10 college students to share their faith? I could feel the hesitation, the uncertainty. But with the urging of the Holy Spirit, I believe God is awakening these 10 college students. I can't wait for next Wednesday!

What an incredible and exciting opportunity to meet with these college students that are so eager to learn. I pray that the Holy Spirit will anoint and guide you as you meet with them and that they will grow and be strengthened to be witnesses there in their community.
